Dr. Anant Nigam is Director, Nigam Diabetes Centre, Jaipur, India. He has been a visiting fellow at the Joslin Diabetes Centre, Boston and The Johns Hopkins University Diabetes Centre, Baltimore, USA. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, Glasgow, UK.

He has delivered invited lectures, keynote addresses and Orations on various forums. Some important invited lectures include ‘Diabetes...The Indian Perspective’ at the Division of Endocrinology & Metabolism at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, USA in 1997 and a ‘Teaching Lecture’ titled ‘Challenges of Insulin Therapy in Developing Societies’ at the IDF Congress at Dubai (2011), key note addresses at the Diabetes in Asia Congress, Kuala Lumpur (2017) and the African Congress on Diabetes at Nairobi (2017). Important Orations delivered include the RSSDI Prof. M. Vishwanathan Oration (2010), the Northeast Diabetes Society Oration (2015) and the Prof. N. Bhu Oration (2015), the DMDEA Honor Lecture Award Gold Medal Oration 2021.

He has chaired important Scientific Sessions at most national and some important international meetings including the IDF (Melbourne 2013, Dubai 2011), the ADA’s Middle-East Congress (2012), the World Congress for the Prevention of Diabetes, Atlanta USA (2016) and the Diabetes Technology Meeting, Bethesda USA November 2017 and 2019. He has been an evaluator of abstracts for the ADA’s Middle-East Congress (2012) and also for the IDF (2013 and 2019).

Dr. Nigam was one of the key investigators of the landmark study ‘Prevalence of Diabetes in India’. His areas of interest include injectable incretin-based therapies on which he has international publications in addition to his contribution in several indexed national and international journals. He has written chapters for text books of the API and the RSSDI and for a book on Lipids. He is on the editorial board of Diabetes & Metabolic Syndrome, Clinical Research and Reviews. He peer reviews for the Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology, USA, Journal of Diabetes and its Complications and in the past has also reviewed for the Indian Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism and JAPI. He is a Founder Member of the International Foundation for the Prevention of Diabetes, an organization based in Atlanta, USA.

He serves as an expert on diabetes for various committees of the Indian Council of Medical Research for evaluation of studies and projects being funded by the Department of Science and Technology and for creating consensus guidelines for diabetes. He was on the Scientific Program Committee of the IDF (2011, 2013) and World Congress for the Prevention of Diabetes, Atlanta USA (2016). He is on the advisory board of various national and international pharmaceutical companies.

Dr. Nigam was one of the founding members of DiabetesIndia and remained its CEO for more than 12 years until 2013. He is a member of the Professional Section of the American Diabetes Association. He was Chair, Organising Committee of National RSSDI 2003 and Diabetes India 2005.
